Carson paints a touching and broad-ranging story of many sea creatures - birds, fish, crabs, eels, tracing many of the stories from the viewpoint of the creature itself from birth through to eventual death. Nonetheless, these do not detract from the scientific accuracies of Carson's descriptions.

The interaction of all the birds, animals and sea life is fascinating. Under the Sea-Wind Under the Sea-Wind, with wonderful line drawings by Baltimore artist Howard Frech, was overshadowed by the Carson never gave up on it, and it was republished to great acclaim in 1952. I think Rachel Carson is an amazing author.

Made sure my grand-children have a copy of their own to read: first evidence of climate change was in the 1950s! Everyone was pleased with her performance. The book is enjoyable and follows the lives and stories of several animals of varying species as they interact with the sea. Sometimes I think it is sad that her ideas are ones people are only still considering today and not taking action on, like promoting biodiversity and the fact that all life on earth is linked in ways we don't understand yet are so necessary. Follow a school of Mullet as they navigate the sea currents to their breeding grounds. Is it the best book ever written? This deep ecology story is surprising and quite amazing in the way that the narrative involves no people at all - only indirectly in the negative way they affect the wildlife. But it's not only fish and birds that struggle for life, man, too, plays a part in the modern sea.
